Pastor’s Devotion

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Our Gospel reading this week in is John 4:5-42 about the Samaritan woman at the well.  Jesus sees her and tells her he is able to give her living water. After a conversation, she becomes his disciple. She goes around telling everyone to come and meet this man who told her everything she has ever done. Right now, we may be unsure how to be Jesus’ disciples. We are told to stay home as much as we can. We are told to physically distance ourselves. We may already be bored or getting a bit nuts being stuck around our homes. However, it remains important to listen to all the doctors, scientists, and government officials who advise us to do so.

This doesn’t mean we have to stop be a “church” or “the Church” overall. We can pray. We can talk to God. We can read our scripture at home. There are many things we can do when we are stuck around the house. I would also encourage us to make phone calls to friends, neighbors, and family who may be lonely or reach out to others if we are lonely or bored ourselves.

We also need to remind ourselves and others that Jesus gives us the same living water that he gave to the Samaritan woman. We ill not be separated forever. We will all get through this. Eventually, church services will resume. I would even like to find a way to celebrate Easter together even if it’s not when we thought it would be. Please remember God is with you in the meantime. May God bless and keep you all!

Be safe and be well,

Pastor Althea
